SANTIAGO, March 6 (Xinhua) -- The Chilean Ministry of Health reported on Saturday that the country had surpassed 21,000 deaths from the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

According to the ministry, 5,037 new cases were reported, bringing the total caseload to 850,483, with 27,523 people in the active stage and 801,537 recovered.

Additionally, in the last day, another 80 deaths were recorded, bringing the death toll to 21,008.

"Pandemic fatigue exists and will continue to exist, as well as mental health problems. We support vacations, but unfortunately, apparently during the holidays, there was social behavior that did not respect the sanitary norms," said Health Minister Enrique Paris.

For the second day in a row, Chile exceeded 5,000 daily cases of the disease, the highest figure since June.
