TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte, June 7 (PIA) -- While some sectors in the local community are apprehensive of the Balik Probinsya Bagong Pag-Asa Program of the government, businessmen in this city fully support the program so long as everything should be put in place particularly on the strict implementation of the protocols and guidelines.
In a statement during the Panindugan Virtual Kapihan on Friday hosted by PIA Regional Director Erlinda Olivia P. Tiu, Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) Tacloban-Leyte President Eugene Tan said they are supporting the program but expressed some concerns amid the influx of returning residents from other places due to the global pandemic.
"Sang-ayon naman tayo sa programa ng gobyerno nitong pagpapauwi, we are not against about this program but ang sa amin lang na sundin at paigtingin ang mga protocols bago pauwiin dito para hindi naman tayo magkaproblema at hindi magkaroon ng another ECQ," Tan said.
Businessmen in this city passed a resolution to the National Inter- Agency Task Force expressing their thoughts and concerns citing new COVID-19 cases in Leyte particularly from the returning residents who are beneficiaries of the program.
Tan calls on responsible agencies to strictly implement the necessary guidelines and protocols so that returning residents would not be carriers of the dreaded virus.
He further said the government has not been remiss in coming up with guidelines but he believes that everybody's cooperation is necessary to include the beneficiaries of the program.
Initially, some local government executives who are expected to be at the receiving end of the program voiced their concerns but have expressed support with the commitment of the national government considering also that returnees are their constituents. (ldl/cba/PIA8)
